History with the New Warriors:

Dwayne Taylor, better known as Night Thrasher taps into the Hellfire Club’s computer and learns about Angelica Jones, better known as Firestar, and threaten to reveal to the world that she’s a mutant if she does not meet up with them. Firestar is less than pleased by being blackmailed, but when Terrax surfaces, they fight together, and she – along with the rest of the summoned Warriors, agree to form a team.

Later, beneath the Massachusetts Academy, White Queen discovers who the mole in her organization is (Kenders) and tortures him through telepathy until he breaks and confesses that he worked for Dwayne Taylor and provided him with intel about the Hellfire Club and it’s members – including the students who were mutants – known as The Hellions, which Firestar was a part of.

Tai makes a deal with the White Queen that beginning then and there, depending on which team wins – the victor gets to keep Firestar on their team.

The first fight is Night Thrasher and Catseye.

Breaking Night Thrasher’s stick as if it were nothing, Night Thrasher jumps on Catseye’s back trying to get in a choke hold, confident his armor will protect him from Catseye’s deadly talons.

Having withstood an Uzi from the Punisher at close ranger, Night Thrasher’s confidence in his armor was boosted… but foolishly so. Catseye’s talons ripped through Night Thrasher’s armor as if it were made of wrapping paper – and the bleeding flesh beneath was the warm present to be found!

Grabbing hold of Night Thrasher, Catseye then throws him against a wall, where his unprotected head slams into a concrete wall, cracking it behind him after having struck it with such force… sending Night Thrasher into darkness.

Next to fight was Jetstream and Nova… both slowly standing after rendering one another unconscious, Nova asks if Jetstream is “up and about” – and just as Jetstream answers, Nova punches him with all his might, sending him through a wall… and sending him into darkness.

Speedball faced off with Roulette.
Still bouncing out of control from Roulette’s previous disc, Speedball jokes that his stomach is upset from bouncing around and that she should turn off the ride.
She does so, with another bad luck disc.
Sending Speedball ounce again to the ground, landing roughly and once again, without powers… Speedball slipped into darkness.

Next in the line of fighting was Marvel Boy against Tarot.
Having drew her Death Card, Marvel Boy found himself facing what he had always imagined the Reaper to look like. Taking blow after blow, Marvel Boy knows that going toe to toe with the Reaper is the wrong way. Turning to Tarot he comments, “I don’t know what the strain of using my full-fledged psychokinetic burst is going to do… to the both of us!” A blast from Vance’s mind sends them both to the ground, unconscious and into darkness!

The next fight is over as soon as it began.
Beef came falling through a new hole in the ceiling with Namorita right on him… Beef’s unconscious body had clearly been knocked out by Namorita, who landed, still standing, right next to him.

It would seem the fates would play this night in the most interesting of ways…
The very last fight depended entirely on the one who they fought for…
Firestar.

When she sailed in, carrying Bevatron, who had fallen to the ceiling and was in critical condition, she could not believe that the entire fight had been over her. Firestar delivers a speech about being manipulated, and that true friends do not manipulate one another, White Queen admits her loss and turns to Firestar and says, “If you insist. When you learn that all your idealistic views are untrue, I will be waiting for your apology, and perhaps I may even accept it.”

Later, several members of X-Force and the New Warriors are in Nova Roma at the estate of Senator Lucius Antonius Aquilla; including Cannonball, Warpath and Firestar, who enjoy the food and festivities presented before them. As they drink and eat, Firestar goes on to explain how Cannonball had called her and told her that the Hellions were killed by Trevor Fritzoy, and Sentinels had put the White Queen in a coma (all of this happened in Uncanny X-Men #281-282). She goes on to say how Cannonball informed her, that since she was a part of the Hellions, he was just letting her know. She decided to join him and Warpath on their journey to Nova Roma to tell Amanda and Manuel, both former Hellions as well.

Hours later, Firestar dons on her costume and sneaks through the night, realizing that Manuel, better known as the Hellion, Empath, must be using his mind controlling powers. She sneaks through Nova Roma, when suddenly Manuel, Amanda (also known as Magma), as well as Cannonball and Warpath stop Firestar. Manuel makes it clear the only problem in Nova Roma is the presence of Firestar!

Firestar shows how the control she has over her powers, which comes easy when fighting the others. The others are slower, stiffer, since they fight under Firestar’s control. Firestar takes to the skies again, and emits a massive microwave pulse which scrambles Manuel’s control over the minds of everyone in Nova Roma. Manuel falls down, and tears fall from his eyes.

We learn that Nova Roma wasn’t built by Romans so long ago. Rather it was built by Selene who tried to recapture the time she loved the most. It also turns out the people of Nova Roma were kidnapped and brought there, and mind-wiped to believe that they were Romans, as a part of Selene’s spell. But Manuel knew the spell was wearing off, and used his mind control to keep the illusion that they had all been actual Romans. He goes on to say how he loved the people, how he loved the life, and how he loved Amanda. But the most startling truth comes when Manuel reveals to Amanda that her real name is Allison Crestmere, a British mutant. She had been with her family in Rio when Selene captured her and mindswiped her to believe her name was Amanda. Manuel goes on to say that he knows all their real names, their real lives, and can help them all rebuild their lives.

Two days later at the Massachusetts Academy, former home of the Hellions, Warpath walks out with a book that says, “Hellions Master File.” Warpath, Cannonball and Firestar look, and with a heavy heart, Firestar ignites the book and tells them, “There is much to bury… memories to put behind them… as their lives move forward and carry on.”

In their apartment, Firestar and Namorita talk, and Firestar makes mention that it’s time for her to change. To focus on the future, and with that a change of costume. Namorita is excited as she rummages through the closet and pulls out a newly designed outfit for Firestar.

“Today I buried the past, and now it’s time to look to the future.”

Later, Trevor Friztoy, who was a part of a team called the Upstarts, sought to kill Emma Frost – but settled for her Hellions; throwing Beef out a window, to his death; then siphoning the life essence of the rest of them, so that he could teleport away.
