History: Born on the Caribbean island, Quincy McIver began his life as a criminal at a very young age. His life of crime would lead to a tragic accident, when during an attempt to evade local authorities, Quincy McIver became a quadruple amputee when he lost his arms and legs in a boating accident.

Roxxon took him on, offering him bionic arms, and a body of a bionic snake-like lower torso. He adopted the name “Bushmaster” from his fallen brother, who’d been the first Bushmaster.

He would later be recruited by Sidewinder to become a part of the Serpent Society, for which he was thankful for. During his time within the Serpent Society he formed a friendship with the female member known as Diamondback. During their first mission, to find and terminate M.O.D.O.K., the desperate M.O.D.O.K. ripped apart Bushmaster’s arms, unaware they were bionic in nature. Bushmaster’s life was saved by Diamondback, and M.O.D.O.K. was killed by the remaining members of the Serpent Society.

When Viper (Madam Hydra) staged a coup of Sidewinder’s Serpent Society, Bushmaster remained loyal to Sidewinder and stuck by his side, thankful for the opportunity he’d been given originally by Sidewinder. When Viper was defeated, Sidewinder felt betrayed by Serpent Society and gave up as their leader. Cobra would take on the mantle and take up the moniker of King Cobra.

When the Serpent Society became aware of Diamondback and Captain America’s relationship, it was put to a vote whether or not to kill her (they’d feared that she was providing Captain America with information about Serpent Society) and Bushmaster voted against killing her, recalling how she’d been the one to befriend him and save his life when his arms had been ripped off during the battle against M.O.D.O.K.

During Civil War, Bushmaster was recruited into the Thunderbolts, along side his other Serpent Society members, King Cobra and Rattler.

Bushmaster, as well as many of the other members of Serpent Society, fell under the sway of Mephisto, who appeared as “The Great Red Serpent.” Under the sway of Mephisto, Serpent Society committed some heinous crimes (such as murder) in the name of the Great Red Serpent. They were however defeated by Nighthawk.

The Serpent Society would appear yet again, under the sway of Mephisto, in an attempt to summon him, but were defeated by the Avengers.
