Return to Cloak & Dagger Volume 2 Listing.
The issue begins with Cloak, Dagger, and the stowaway from the ship (Bill Clayton) landing in France, in pursuit of the smugglers. Bill tries to convince Cloak and Dagger to take a break and enjoy some of France, but Cloak won’t have any of it. Bill then says that neither of them will get far without him; because he’s been around and knows about the smugglers, and can read French, unlike Cloak and Dagger. He convinces them finally to take a small break (only because Cloak realizes that Dagger needs it; and without it, she may grow to resent him). Bill uses the money that had been dropped from the defeated smugglers from the ship to purchase some clothes for both Cloak and Dagger; however, Dagger takes the clothes and Cloak declines, reminding Bill that he’s incapable of wearing normal clothes, since they’d be swallowed into the shadows of his robes.
Back at the Holy Ghost Church in New York, Father Francis is startled from his rest by Daimon Hellstrom, whom Father Francis summoned after learning that Daimon was the leading specialist on Demonology. After hearing Father Francis’ case, Daimon declines, saying that God has a special love for children; and he will see these children to safety. This leaves Father Francis thinking how his superiors turned their back on him, and now Daimon Hellstrom has done it – and he decides, if an exorcism is to be performed, he must do it himself, in order to save Dagger’s soul.
Elsewhere in New York, Mayhem zooms into the Police Station, claiming to be after a corrupt officer – and one of them overcome with guilt, fears for himself and opens fire on her – but the bullets can’t get past her mist. Just as she’s about to extract her revenge another officer approaches and tells Mayhem how he remembered O’Reilly for being a good cop. She spares the corrupt officer, who is then arrested and charged after an investigation into her allegations.
Back at France, Bill and Tandy (Dagger) are walking when a man bumps into Bill and apologizes; and Bill realizes the man has stolen his wallet, and they give chase. When the man runs into an alley, Dagger hits him with a light dagger that renders him unconscious. They recover the wallet and move on; finding a circus. Cloak, in the meantime, witnesses a drug deal going down; and watches as one of the men is gunned down and the money is taken. Cloak considers taking down the assassin, but decides to follow him instead. It ends up being an assassin named Jean-Claude, who has gotten the the morphine for a (unethical) scientist named Baptiste. Cloak hears Baptiste mention that the drugs will be used for a shipment to New York and attacks. One of the men fearfully backs up, knocking over one of the lab tables, which has an explosive reaction. Baptiste panics that the morphine might burn; but Jean-Claude grabs it and reminds Baptiste that he’s not paid for it and flees. Cloak pulls those that didn’t flee into his shroud and devours the light from them, leaving them cold and trembling before teleporting and appearing before Jean-Claude, and takes his entire car into his shadows, then releases him on the ledge of the mountain road, where his car explodes into a fiery crash on the ocean waves below.
