Return to issue listing of Cloak & Dagger – Volume 3.
The issue begins with Dagger being ambushed by the Marked Man. But then it immediately goes into a flashback of that day, before that moment and has Tandy (Dagger) and Tyrone (Cloak) enjoying a walk in the local zoo. Rebecca “Rusty” Nales meets them at the zoo and asks Tandy if she can borrow Tyrone and go for a walk with him. As they walk, Rebecca openly asks Tyrone if there’s any chance of their relationship developing beyond just friends.
Elsewhere in a subway, we learn a little more about the Marked Man, as there’s some internal dialogue about him being a Morlock and that the Marauders had come down and killed most of their kind. (See Uncanny X-Men #211 for the beginning of the Mutant Massacre). The Marked Man attacks a man standing in the subway and renders him unconscious and carves the word “Gigolo” on the man’s head. However an officer spots him and gives chase and radios for back up. Rebecca “Rusty” Nales gets the call at the zoo and imparts a kiss on Cloak’s lips. Cloak then teleports Rebecca and Dagger to the scene.
Elsewhere, Brigid is in a bathroom where the voice beyond the eye patch demands that she gets near Cloak & Dagger. One of the officers that she’s out to dinner with, knocks on the door and tells her the Marked Man has been spotted.
Not far, the man known as Vernon French – or what most would know him as the Crimson Daffodil – reads a paper and seems to have an obsession with the idea of wooing Dagger and winning her heart. He puts on a new costume, with the newly adopted name – The Wombat. (Folks, I can’t make this stuff up…)
In the sewers, Dagger ends up separated from Cloak and Rebecca “Rusty” Nales; and ends up encountering the Marked Man whom she stuns with her light; but then apologizes when she hears him crying, and the Marked Man agrees that he too, simply needs a friend. But that’s when the Crimson Daff – I mean, the Wombat – appears – and the Marked Man suspects that Dagger was setting him up. The Marked Man secretes a blast of inky liquid from his finger tip, blinding the Wombat (it’s the same liquid he uses to tattoo his victims). Marked Man knocks Wombat out and grabs Dagger and carries her away. She regains consciousness and is alone, feeling like she had been branded like all of the other victims of the Marked Man. Cloak catches up to Dagger and assures her there’s nothing written on her forehead. The Police jump on the Marked Man when they find him, and he sees Dagger – shouting out, “Judas!” Because she had promised to be his friend. Sadly she asks for Cloak to teleport them back home.
