Return to Power Pack – Into the Storm Issue Directory!
The events of this issue take place after the Power Pack: Grow up! one shot.
The issue opens up with the Power family returning to their home where the kids of the Power family (Alex, Julie, Jack and Katie) all originally got their powers. As the kids use their powers to race to get in the house, their parents still unaware of their children’s powers, Katie gazes out the window recalling when the space ship Friday had crashed, and an alien being named Whitey died and gave his powers to the kids. (See Power Pack #1 of the original series for those details)
As the kids race around the house, they begin picking rooms and note that their friend, Franklin Reed is also going to be staying with them when he shows up. The kids then race out to the water, where Katie believes she’s bitten by something in the water and accidentally absorbs energy – and releases some of her energy balls. Their parents see the balls but believe they’re simply fireworks. This was essentially done, I believe to show all of the kids powers to unfamiliar reads – Julie can fly at high speeds, with a rainbow trail; Katie can disintegrate things and absorb energy and release destructive energy balls; Jack can turn into a cloud form and float, and squeeze through small openings; while Alex has the ability to negate the gravity of something so that it can be easily lift, including his own body weight.
The scene shifts to Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) and Sue Richards (Invisible Woman) of the Fantastic Four; and he has a dream – which he realizes is a vision – of a Snark (named Mayhem) speaking to a Brood about finding their ship; and how the Brood wants Power Pack to use them as hosts and hatch them as new Brood. Franklin, when he realizes it’s a vision and not a dream, goes to tell his parents – but they all seem busy. He convinces himself that maybe it wasn’t a vision – and besides it might make it so his parents race off to check into it, leaving him with Jarvis and not able to go to the Power’s home.
Light years away, on Snarkworld, Kofi, a Kymellia, complains about his father, Lord Yrik, an ambassador of the Kymellia, always seems so busy. Raff, another Kymellia, assures Kofi that his father has been doing wonders, and earned the trust of Emperor Bhadsha, a snark – a race that had long since between at war with the Kymellia. Kofi teleports to see his father speaking with the Emperor; Kofi’s father expresses concern over the recent incursions by the Brood, but the Emperor assures Yrik that the Brood problem will be taken care of and that there is nothing to be worried about Maraud’s daughter, Mayhem. The Emperor urges Yrik to take his son Kofi to the academy, and mentions that Princess Djinna will also be attending the academy (Intergalactic of Science) and had expressed an interest in the items Maraud had gathered. Yrik mentions that Djinna’s mother, Djenteel, had always been a good friend to Bhadsha.
Back on Earth, Franklin is dropped off with the Powers by the Fantastic Four. When Franklin and the other Power kids are at the beach; Franklin shares the vision he had and the Power kids recognize the alien Franklin draws in the sand as a Brood. Alex assures Franklin that the Brood had already attacked before so his vision may have been a past vision. At the lunch, the conversation of the Fantastic Four having powers comes up and Alex tries to brooch the subject, asking if it would be magnificent if he, Julie, Jack and Katie had powers – and his mother explains no, because it would be too terrifying; but his father jokes, unless it’s the power to keep your rooms clean.
Back at the Intergalactic of Science, another alien begins pushing Princess Djinna around and Kofi intervenes by teleporting her away. She asks why he’d done that, and Kofi explains that he wanted to avoid an intergalactic war between races; and she explains she could have taken care of herself and shows off a illusion maker that would have altered her appearance and frightened them away. Princess Djinna also explains that Bhadsha also let her have Maraud’s old ship as a reward for her wisdom.
Princess Djinna takes off in the ship with Kofi, only to discover another Snark ship waiting just off the planet – the snark, Mayhem is behind it and begins firing at the ship, first taking out the communications – this was her mother’s ship and she wanted it back! Kofi puts in the coordinates for Earth, being familiar with Power Pack, and the duo make the jump to Earth.
Back on Earth, Franklin awakens and shouts that the monsters from his vision are coming! The kids suit up and race out to the beach to call on Friday – but just then another ship crashes into the water and Kofi and Princess Djinna emerge – Kofi quickly explains the situation and that the princess is one of the good guys – when suddenly Mayhem’s ship appears just behind theirs!
