The issue opens up with a man walking through the streets of New York City, unaware that above, Cloak and Dagger seem to be watching an “Adult Business” store. The man enters inside the store, pays the fee for the peep show in the back. As the door lifts, what he sees beyond is not what he expected.

There, rescuing a young runaway, Cloak and Dagger see the man and Cloak says he must pay. The man panics and begins to run, and trips and falls inside the store. The bouncers in the store draw their weapons and open fire on Cloak and Dagger, but Cloak is able to teleport himself, Dagger and the innocent female runaway who had been tricked into a life of prostitution. One of the bouncers calls for help; which happens to be a desk sergeant. The desk sergeant is overheard by Captain O’Reilly and she fires him after hearing the story of how he was on the take. She arrives just as Cloak and Dagger are speaking with the owner of the sex shop. They release the owner to Captain O’Reilly. As some of the men who acted as bouncers and pimps around the sex shop are arrested, one of them warns O’Reilly that she will get what’s coming to her, because a lot of the “boys in blue” (referencing her fellow police officers) are on their pay roll.

Cloak and Dagger teleport to the Holy Ghost Church, where Father Francis speaks to them; and curses the hold that Cloak has over Dagger. Dagger explains that there is no hold over her; that they’re friends and work to mutually benefit each other and save runaways, because no one was there to save them when they needed it. Father Francis provides the current address of Dagger’s mother. He goes on to explain that her mother misses and worries about her. Cloak and Father Francis fight about how the good priest is trying to break them apart. Cloak pulls Father Francis into his cloak of shadows, just as Dagger grabs his hand. Still, Father Francis sees a world with shattered religious symbols, and a future that is bleak and horrible. Cloak releases them and teleports to the main area of the church where he confronts an elderly homeless man and pulls him into his cloak of shadows, just as Dagger gets there and begins to fight with Cloak. Cloak then begins to envelop several of the homeless and Dagger’s forced to project her light force to rescue them. She turns to Cloak and says she’s done doing this, because these missions – where they see only the worse in people – is turning them into monsters.
