Night Thrasher #3 (2024)

The issue opens with Dwayne Taylor flipping through the channels and watching the news where he’s called a “vigilante”, and how Captain Julio Armez won’t stand for it, as well as Councilman Ikolo complaining that the police officers efforts were too heavy handed and that they’ve been hassling Harlem’s citizens. Dwayne throws down the television remote, shattering it on the floor, in frustration.

Dwayne tells Silhouette that he needs to make this right; stop using his fists and fighting and see if he can talk peace and get things sorted. He first seeks out Captain Armez, asking if he can speak with Elvin; but Captain Armez refuses explaining that Elvin is headed for the prison known as The Raft. Dwayne explains that Elvin was a friend of his and that he would like to speak with him; and this makes Captain Armez suspicious of Dwayne if these are the kind of people he calls friends. (Note: It’s odd that the writer didn’t use the fact that Dwayne was actually considered Elvin’s legal guardian at one point, rather than saying they were ‘friends.’)

Captain Armez yells at Dwayne telling him if he wants to help, he can go back to his nice office, with its nice view, and lock his doors, so that Captain Armez and his men can do their work without people getting in the way.

Dwayne, seeing that’s going nowhere, decides to track down Councilman Ikolo who had led a march right up to the doors of the police station, calling for change and that the police brutality has gone too far. Dwayne tries to convince the Councilman that marching up to the police station like this is just mounting tension between the police and the people of Harlem; but the Councilman explains that the police need to be held accountable for their behavior and that they’ve pushed around the people of Harlem for too long. Dwayne tries to convince the Councilman to allow this to blow over, but the Councilman refuses.

Meanwhile, Silhouette tracks down Kendrick and the other gang members that had managed to escape from being arrested and speaks with them; telling them that they don’t need to be afraid anymore.

She then returns to the Taylor Foundation and sees Dwayne now packing his own belongings. Dwayne explains that he doesn’t belong here anymore; he tried to fix things and all he’s done is make things worse. Silhouette grabs him and teleports him to the graveyard, shoving him into his own grave, and explains if he wants to leave, he can climb back into his grave and stay dead. She then begins pushing Dwayne and challenging him – it’s interesting to note that during the fight, Dwayne says:

My parents are dead! Chord is dead! Tai is dead! Donyell is dead!

– Dwayne Taylor, Night Thrasher #2 (2024)

However, Donyell’s last appearance he was very much alive. It’s unclear if this was an error on the writer’s part, or if Donyell died “off panel” (which would be a horrible idea). Hopefully, an error on the writer’s part.

Elsewhere, a rally between the Councilman and the people of Harlem and Captain Armez and the police force begins to escalate – when it’s interrupted by Dwayne and Silhouette, now leading the gang of children that Elvin once led.
