The issue opens with Brandon calling Dagger, wondering where she is – and why she ditched him at the burger joint and why she hasn’t shown up to work. (See last issue for the details of what happened).

Mister Negative, who is now no longer bound to a mortal body appears to Brandon and takes over him, using his Darkforce manipulation to convince Brandon to take the helicopter for a “joy ride.” He throws the pilot out of the helicopter; but he manages to cling to a ledge as the helicopter takes off.

Cutting back to Cloak and Dagger, they pull away from their kiss, both happy and wanting more – and just as they go in to kiss again – Vivian wakes up swearing at Cloak, that she’s still in the room and that they were an item – they’d just slept together and now he’s bouncing back to Dagger. Her eyes begin to exhibit evidence of the Darkforce, but that’s cut off when suddenly Cloak loses control of his powers, similar to when he had fought Mister Negative and somehow separated Mister Negative from “Martin Li.” Then he’s pulled into himself and transported to the Darkforce Dimension where he comes face to face with the “Cosmic Eye” that had been dealing with Mister Negative. The creature begins pulling the Darkforce out of Cloak.

Back on Earth as Dagger and Vivian scream at each other, “Martin Li” explains that the creature that took Tyrone is known as “The Devourer” and that is ancient and was trapped in the Darkforce Dimension before light even existed – and it hungers for the world and all the light it has to offer. He explains that Mister Negative made a deal; he’d help the Devourer get Cloak if the Devourer could separate him from his mortal self. It would seem the deal had been completed.

Martin Li also explains that there might be a way to help. There is only one thing they fear – and it is a being of pure light – Dagger. But without Cloak there’s no way to get to the Dark Dimension easily; but Martin Li explains that Mister Negative has a golden orb (seen last issue) that he used to communicate with the Devourer – it could be used, as Mister Negative had used it before. Dagger, Vivian and Martin Li make their way – and as they arrive, they encounter Mister Negative’s goons, which Dagger takes on. (Some really great banter between Martin Li, Vivian and Dagger takes place!) When they get to the orb, they need some Darkforce and Dagger explains she saw it in Vivian’s eyes when she was yelling at Cloak – but Vivian doesn’t know how she did it – she was angry. So Dagger yanks her chain and gets her upset, which triggers the Darkforce and powers the golden orb.

However, Brandon shows up in the helicopter and fires at them; and Dagger leaps into the helicopter and Mister Negative separates from Brandon to try and manipulate Dagger; she absorbs the Darkforce he offers, and throws him out of the helicopter, holding onto him and tearing open a portal to the Darkforce Dimension to confront the Devourer and save Cloak.

In the meantime, Vivian, Brandon and Martin Li laugh about being side characters, and talk about world ending, darkness events, then look up at the sky and see the “eye” of the Devourer in the heavens.

Dagger and Mister Negative battle it out; he continues to try and take control of Dagger, with his new found, mortal-less form. However, Dagger manages to convince Mister Negative that if she dies on the Darkforce Dimension, he will have no way back to Earth; so he agrees to help her, but upon arriving on Earth, he immediately betrays her to the Devourer again. Just as things seem hopeless, she calls out for Cloak whose hand appears through the Darkness and pulls her back into the Darkforce, where they share a kiss – and Cloak absorbs Dagger’s light – and together – they seal off the portal and destroy the Devourer.

Dagger breaks it up with Brandon, and Cloak breaks up with Vivian; neither break up goes well.

Across town, Martin Li returns to the penthouse that had been run by Mister Negative, and discovers that he is once again bonded.
