History: The same experiment that changed Robbie Baldwin into the Masked Marvel, or better known as Speedball, was the same experiment that turned Niels, an ordinary domestic cat, into a similarly powered bouncing feline. Both Robbie and Niels had been bombarded with the excess energy when the experiment went out of control, forever changing both of their lives.

Robbie spent weeks trying to capture Niels so that he could take him back to the lab and gain a better understanding of how his powers worked. A short time later, a villain by the name of Rebound sought to capture Niels for himself and convert Niels’ power into himself. However, when he was captured, Niels used a kinetic energy hairball to destroy Rebound’s machine, which led to the arrest of the villain.

Some time later, Niels was called upon by Lockjaw when the Pet Avengers were formed, and Niels accepted, adopting the “hero” name of Hairball.

Powers: Niels’ exposure to energy from a dimension of kinetic energy gave him the superhuman ability to create a kinetic field of unknown energy around himself which absorbs all kinetic energy directed against him (what he originally called the “Speedball Effect.”) This absorption can vary from resisting the effects of physical objects such as bricks and rocks to resisting that of energy and fire and even explosions. Within his kinetic field it is nearly impossible for him to be hurt, and he instead bounces harmlessly from object to object, with no loss or transference of momentum. Niels was also shown to be able to spit kinetic hairballs with significant damage.
