Return to Darkhawk Infinity Countdown.
The issue begins with a Kree ship under attack by the Badoon. The Kree captain, Dea-Sea (that couldn’t be a reference to DC, could it?) hails the figure that has suddenly come and destroyed the Badoon. Dea-Sea asks who he is and why he saved the Kree, and the figure who is Dark Starhawk simply answers, “I saved your crew because your ship looked cooler,” then flies off after changing into a purple, Phoenix/Hawk like figure.
Meanwhile, on the planet Arcturus, where Darkhawk had the amulet ripped from his chest, and Gyre also proceeded to punch a hole in his chest, crawls along, surprised he’s alive; unsure what the green fluid bleeding from his chest is. He suddenly sees a figure with what appears to be a mechanical hawk on their shoulder. The hawk speaks to hima nd tells him to get up – and Chris realizes that the hawk is somehow the embodiment of Razor. Razor explains that a portion of him still exists on some cybernetic level in Darkhawk’s armor, awakened by the traumatic events of having the amulet ripped out of his chest. Razor explains that when he first met Chris he sacrificed his body so that Chris could have it to become Darkhawk; now he would merge his mind with Chris’ to awaken his full potential.
Chris’ mind races and sees Elders of the Universe – In-Betweener; The Champion; The Collector; The Runner; The Grandmaster; and then… The Gardener. It explains how the Gardener was obsessed with creating life where there was none; including the Darkforce Dimension and Null Space; and it was there, the Tree of Shadows took root. And he sees – a thousand years past that – where the Shi’ar and the Skrull battled on the field, seeking the power they sensed in the Tree of Shadows. It was the Shi’ar who reached it first, and touched one of the gems; which ended up shaping the first Raptor to have it’s bird like appearance, resembling the Shi’ar. As it killed the Skrulls, it sensed their ability to change their form and adopted and incinerated the Skrulls on the planet, leaving only the Shi’ar. But that first Raptor was forever changed by the force that they had unleashed in themselves.
Razor then awakens Chris’ potential, and Darkhawk is reborn – without the amulet. Death’s Head shows up and explains that since the Raptors attacked his ship, their business deal is done – but he did see a large “energy raptor” that he thinks would fetch a lot of money and would like to partner up with Darkhawk – for now.
Elsewhere, rapidly approaching Earth, Gyre, Dark Starhawk and the other Raptors are on their way when something appears to be matching their speed – but it’s too small to be a ship. It turns out to be none other than Darkhawk, as a large robot like structure!
