The issue begins with Captain America thinking how the Avengers have responded to every call they have gotten when the world was in trouble. And now, the Hulk – much, much, much larger, and much, much, much meaner – enhanced by magic has gone rampaging through Arizona causing untold destruction. Stranger still, many of the heroes seem to have lost their moral compass, while villains on the other hand have sided with the heroes. In New York, Sam watches as the rampaging Hulk grows closer to Carefree, Arizona – his home town, which is in the middle of a massive evacuation. He finds flies off to his home town and finds his mother’s car stuck in traffic, and flies them to Canada in mere moments. His mother explains that the Avengers should stop the Hulk, and Nova explains that there are no more Avengers and flies off again.
Nova returns to Carefree, Arizona where he saves several people’s lives before having to finally directly confront the rampaging Hulk by striking him. The Hulk manages to grab Nova and takes a massive bite into Nova’s arm. Heeding the advice of his father, Nova put his other hand up the Hulk’s giant nostril and blasted the Nova force directly into the Hulk’s skull. The result actually renders the Hulk unconscious, for a less than a minute. When the Hulk stands again, Nova feeling confident, explains that the Hulk should have stayed down. The Hulk, in turn, hits Nova with such incredible force that it sends him into the stratosphere – barely even aware of any surroundings, he crashes into the Eifel tower. When he finally regains consciousness, he believes he’s in Las Vegas, having struck the replica Eifel tower. But the doctor explains that he’s very lucky to be alive, and that he has actually landed in Paris, France. Broken arm, fractured ribs, swollen eye and lips, Sam can barely remember the last few events of his life, when the nurse brings in his extremely damaged Nova helmet.
