History: Clyde worked as an assistant to Doctor Rarque, who was working on an accelerated growth formula. During one of the tests, using a pig – the formula proved successful, however the pig became impossible to control, which resulted in things being toppled over, trampled, and eventually igniting a fire that sent the entire lab up in flames. Clyde had managed to grab some of the notes before it was consumed by the fire, but it was by no means complete.

Stealing chemicals from Hammond Labs, Clyde tried to replicate the growth formula on his own, in his makeshift lab hidden inside of a barn. Time and time again, he seemed to fail, piecing the pages he’d found with what he’d remembered – but was startled to discover one of the formulas must have worked when he discovered a giant chicken in the backyard. Speedball arrived and put things to rest – though Clyde was believed to have been slain by a giant rat; but would resurface alive, and just as crazy.

Clyde had learned that Niels also had the same powers as Speedball and hired the goons that had previously attacked Speedball in Springdale to capture Niels, which they’d successfully done. This drew the attention of Speedball, who was also shortly afterwards, captured. Clyde bound them both to a machine he’d created that would allow him to siphon both the powers of Niels and Speedball into himself – and he would call himself Rebound.

During the process, Niels released a kinetically charged hairball that struck the machine, causing it to go wild – and rattling Clyde violently. This allowed Speedball to get near the plug and pull the plug on the machine. Clyde and the goons were captured by local authorities and arrested.

It’s unknown if the brief exposure to the powers Niels and Speedball possessed had any impact on Clyde’s body.
