History: This Sphinx is unlike any seen previously. He explains to Timeslip that he came into beign because all of the New Warriors returned from their adventure through time (the Time and Time Again story). He also explains to Timeslip that Darrion’s plan failed – he had not stopped Advent and “forgotten” why he’d created a duplicate of the original Speedball. Sphinx explained that it was after “Speedball” (who was actually Darrion Grobe) and knew it was Darrion – it is believed that this Sphinx comes from the time line that Darrion had come from (Earth 9485, which is a variant of the 2099 universe).

The Sphinx attacks Speedball, asking him if he’s simply feigning ignorance or does he somehow truly not know what he’s doing and who he is. As he attacks Speedball, and explains that he must kill him – the rest of the New Warriors jump into action to stop this new Sphinx. When Garthal Saal joins the fight, this Sphinx notes that he finds it interesting that variants of “Nova” and “Sphinx” seem to find themselves constantly battling one another. However, despite all of Garthal Saal’s power, this Sphinx simply bats him away.

As he begins siphoning the life of Speedball, he assures him that he does not enjoy what he’s doing – but Speedball is literally out of time. Sphinx delivers a killing strike and as Speedball lay dying in Timeslip’s arms, “Speedball” seems to realize he’s not Robbie Baldwin… and this has impact on Timeslip… and this Sphinx departs.

Powers: Anath-Na Mut had been made eternally to reincarnate via the Ka Stone’s energies; always retaining the memories of all of his previous lives. Because of the Ka Stone, he was able to alter reality in a several mile radius; although, once when she had used the Scepter of Ka, actually created an entire alternate reality. He had projects blasts from his hands and eyes, in various forms of energy, frequency and light. He was able to create elaborate illusions (although this could be credited to actually warping reality itself, more than it was an actual illusion), as well as teleport great distances. The Ka Stone energy also enhanced his strength, allowing him to press/lift 85 tons. The Ka Stone also allowed him to read minds, as well as erase memories (again the erasing of memories could be credited to the ability to alter reality; and thus not truly erasing memories, but creating an alternate reality where such events occurred as he desired them to). He also possesses the ability to “drain” a person’s mind and attain all of their memories and knowledge (leaving the body of the victim a mindless husk). This Sphinx also gained the ability similar to what Timeslip was able to do, where he could instantly displace himself from time to avoid attacks.
