THE SUPER APES

Origin: Ivan Kragoff, a Russian scientist and criminal, attempted to mimic the powers that had given the Fantastic Four their powers. He exposed himself, along with a gorilla named Miklho; an orangutan named Petoro; and a baboon named Igor, to the Cosmic Rays – but increased the amount of time they were exposed. Ivan gained the ability to phase through solid objects, and when doing so, also becoming varying degrees of transparency. Miklho, a silver back gorilla gained incredible strength; while Petoro gained magnetic control over all forms of metal; and Igor can shape change into anything (person or inanimate objects).

At one point, Red Ghost believed the trio of super apes, destroyed and recruited two others that he named Alpha and Beta; but when they were exposed to Cosmic Rays, they turned on Red Ghost and fled to the jungle, to supposedly amass an army to march against humankind (which, to this day, has not happened).

When Red Ghost reunited with the original three Super Apes, some time later, Red Hulk seemingly killed Miklho. Red Ghost was so furious he tried to kill Red Hulk himself. As time has passed, the Super Apes have gained more and more sentient knowledge, becoming genius level scientists, while Red Ghost has slowly become a simpleton – this is believed to be due to their bond with the Red Ghost.

Miklho was revealed alive when the New Warriors encountered the Super Apes in a Zoo, who had been enhancing the intelligence of other animals in the Zoo. When the dust was settled, the animals and the Super Apes agreed to remain in the zoo; with one rule – no more cages. Only a few animals decided to keep their cages – just so that they could easily keep their space from humans.
