Bandit

Real Name: Donyell (Last Name Unrevealed)
Aliases: Donyell Taylor, Night Thrasher (II)
Identity: Secret
Occupation: Criminal
Citizenship: American Citizen, with a known criminal record.
Place of Birth: Chicago, Illinois
Known Relatives: Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher, half-brother), Daryl Taylor (father, deceased), mother (name unknown, deceased)
Group Affiliation: Formerly a member of the New Warriors, Thieves Guild
First Appearance: Night Thrasher #3
History: Donyell was the product of Daryl Taylor and a one-night stand with an unnamed woman. Growing up, Donyell developed an increasing amount of resentment towards Daryl’s legitimate son, Dwayne.

Learning that Dwayne had developed a relationship with Silhouette Chord, Donyell, adopting the name Bandit, seduced Dwayne’s estranged girlfriend before confronting Dwayne. Despite beating Dwayne severely, though evenly matched, Bandit became unstable and abducted Silhouette to lure Dwayne into the final piece of his vengeance.

Those plans were thwarted when Dwayne won the rematch, and although Dwayne was willing to reconcile their differences when he discovered Donyell’s true origin, Bandit departed, leaving the relationship between the two of them unresolved.

Bandit later reappeared when the New Warriors were scattered through time by Lady Sphinx (Meryet Karim), perhaps only because his lover, Silhouette had been one of the Warriors that had disappeared. Agreeing to lead this band of “New New Warriors”, they teleported to Egypt to begin tracking down where the Warriors had vanished to.

With the arrival of the original Warriors, they managed to defeat both Sphinxs’ when both Meryet Karim and the male Sphinx merged into a composite being and vanished somewhere into the past.

Troubled by their relationship, Night Thrasher parted ways with Silhouette and Bandit, on worse terms than before.

Years later, Bandit turned up in New Orleans. There he romanced Belladonna Boudreaux, leader of the Thieves and Assassins Guild. Although he furthered the guild’s criminal endeavors, he still felt that Belladonna’s ex-husband, Remy LeBeau (Gambit) posed a threat to them. However, when attacked, Gambit explained to Belladonna that Bandit had been manipulating her and that he still had not broken off his relationship with Silhouette Chord. However, before anything else could be done, the members of the guild turned on all three of them, but the guild was defeated and in the confusion Bandit left New Orleans.

During a televised raid by the New Warriors of a building in which Cobalt Man, Speedfreak, Coldheart, and Nitro, who had recently escaped from the Raft, resided. Namorita followed after Nitro. Slamming him into a bus, Namorita taunted him, but Nitro screamed he wasn’t the kind of loser that she was used to facing, she was in fact “playing with the big boys now”, before letting off a massive explosion that killed Namorita, Night Thrasher, Microbe, all of the children at the nearby elementary school, and all residents in the surrounding neighborhood where the fight took place.

Bandit took up the guise as the new Night Thrasher and formed a new version of the New Warriors.

Rage

Real Name: Elvin Daryl Haliday
Aliases: Blacksmith
Identity: Publically Known
Occupation: Student
Citizenship: United States Citizen with no criminal record, still a minor.
Place of Birth: Brooklyn, New York
Known Relatives: Mr. Haliday (father, deceased), Mrs. Haliday (mother, deceased), Edna M. “Granny” Staples (grandmother, deceased); Andrew Chord and Dwayne Taylor (legal guardians)
Group Affiliation: Formerly Avengers, New Warriors, Queen’s Vengeance, Psionex
First Appearance: Avengers #326 (1990)
History: Twelve-year-old Elvin Haliday was visiting an unfamiliar neighborhood to trade some comic books with another boy when he was attacked by a gang of racist bullies. Elvin eluded them by hiding in the heavily polluted waters of Newtown Creek, but before he could climb out, Fisk Biochem workers dumped more illegal chemical waste into the creek, dousing him with it. Terrified and in pain, Elvin ran home to his only family, Granny Staples, and she nursed him back to health over a period of days. The boy recovered quickly, and in the weeks and months that followed, he went through a tremendous growth spurt that gave him a superhumanly powerful adult body. He was discouraged from seeking vengeance on his tormentors by the devoutly religious Granny Staples, who felt he should use his new powers for good. Fashioning a makeshift costume from a ski mask and a leather outfit, Elvin began operating as the super-vigilante Rage at the age of 14, targeting street criminals and drug dealers such as L.D. 50. He applied for membership in the Avengers, berating the team for their elitism and lack of visible minorities. Despite this obnoxious introduction, he was appointed a probationary Avengers reservist alongside Sandman after aiding the group in an otherdimensional mission. Though technically part of a substitute roster serving as backup for the active team, Rage was a frequent participant in Avengers cases, facing foes such as Ngh the Unspeakable, the Tetrarchs of Entropy, Doctor Doom, the Brethren, the Collector and Grotesk.

Eventually, during a conflict with Hate-Monger and his racist pawns, the Sons of the Serpent, the Avengers discovered that Elvin was still a child and demoted him to trainee status. During that case, Elvin met the New Warriors, who befriended him and later convinced him to help them steal an Avengers quinjet for an emergency rescue mission. Expelled from the Avengers for this misconduct, Rage joined the New Warriors, becoming a mainstay of the group and forming a close friendship with Speedball. When the Poison Memories gang killed Granny Staples as part of a vendetta against the Warriors, Rage cold-bloodedly killed gang leader Kimeiko Ashu, though a judge later deemed his actions self-defense.

Warriors leader Dwayne Taylor (Night-Thrasher) and Dwayne’s mentor Andrew Chord were appointed Elvin’s legal guardians, and when Dwayne later had a falling-out with the other Warriors, Elvin left the team with him. Serving as mentors to the troubled super-youths Psionex for a time, Night-Thrasher and Rage eventually rejoined the Warriors, who began to drift apart as their members pursued differing goals. Rage has decided to concentrate on his studies at the Oatridge School for Boys and is only infrequently active as a super hero of late, though he has been willing to assist the Avengers and the Warriors against foes such as the Elements of Doom, Morgan Le Fay, Whirlwind, Taskmaster, A.I.M., Lord Templar and an insane Scarlet Witch.

Rage resurfaced when The Initiative was formed. He led a small band of heroes from the Initiative for awhile, including members such as Slapstick, Ultra-Girl, Thor Girl, and a few others. Rage found himself the center of an investigation when Gauntlet was beaten and left for dead.

At the Appalachian Safehouse, Night Thrasher finds that the entire area is undisturbed. He had hoped that if Dwayne were still alive he would be hiding here. He does however, managed to snag some of Dwayne’s DNA for testing. As he exits the house however, he discovers he’s not alone and is confronted by Counter Force which consists of: Justice, Rage, Debrii, Slapstick and two of the Scarlet Spiders.

Both Rage and Justice try to talk to Night Thrasher but he refuses to discuss it with them and a fight breaks out – and just when it seems like Night Thrasher’s been captured – the arrival of the New Warriors tips the balance once more.

Throughout the fight Night Thrasher is thinking about how Justice and the rest of Counter Force think he’s a Skrull – while he’s wondering if it was Skrull who perished at Stamford, not his own half-brother. As the fight processes, Night Thrasher realizes that this has to end quickly.

He decides to stop the fight and unveil who he is. He explains his actions about looking for the truth about Dwayne – and whether he would ever take part of some reality television show as a part of the “New Warriors.” Justice steps up and informs Donyell that he can help – because he knows the location of Dwayne’s body.

The New Warriors, along with Counter Force, arrive at the Helicarrier only to find it under attack by Skrulls. The New Warriors and Counter Force get out of the plane as Night Thrasher crashes it into one of the Skrull ships. After that, they follow Justice onto the Helicarrier and begin helping the S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents against the Skrulls.

As the New Warriors and Counter Force battle the Skrulls, Night Thrasher grabs Justice and enables “ghost mode” – allowing them to phrase through the floor. The others continue to battle the Skrulls – and just when it seems like they might be doing all right – the arrival of a Super Skrull, looking a lot like Nova, appears and tilts the odds back in favor of the Skrulls.

Meanhile Justice leads Night Thrasher to the bodies of what appears to be Dwayne and Microbe, with Nita’s ashes in a jar. Night Thrasher takes a sample from Dwayne’s body and begins the DNA comparison. All three turn out to be positive identifications – proving that the Dwayne, Namorita and Microbe did indeed die at Stamford. Night Thrasher turns to Justice and explains, he’s taking the remains with him. Justice, after a brief pause, agrees to help.

They bury the New Warriors and create a memorial plaque for Dwayne, Namorita and Zachary.

Later, Ragnarok, a clone of Thor, that killed Goliath, during Civil War, attacks Camp Hammond. Justice, leading Counter Force – now calling themselves “The New Warriors” with Night Thrasher as a member arrive to put a stop to Ragnarok. Vance nearly dies in the fight, saved only by the timely arrival of Ultra-Girl. They managed to defeat Ragnarok, and Vance gets MVP’s original corpse. This, however, exposes everything – allowing Norman Osborn to shut down Camp Hammond, placing villains on the Initiative teams. The New Warriors rescue Gauntlet and Tigra and form The Avengers Resistance.

During the events of Fear Itself, Prodigy holds a meeting about the “magical hammers” that have crashed onto the Earth. Among those in attendance, Rage was among them. He is later seen with Debrii rescuing survivors and helps the team in their battle against Thor Girl, who had recovered her designate powers.

Some time later, with the appearance of an organization called the Americops (a private police force with violent methods), Rage was at an Anti-Americops rally, where it was seen by the new Captain America (Sam Wilson, formerly Falcon). Captain America had Rage removed, before things escalated.

This would not, however, be the last time Rage would encounter the Americops. He stumbled across Speed Demon and Man Mountain Marko robbing a store, but the villains managed to get the best of him, and escaped. When the Americops arrived, they brutalized and arrested Rage. Because Rage wanted to stand for the African American community, he declined the help from the Avengers lawyers, because it would have been the “easy way out.” Despite footage found by the new Falcon, the evidence was found inadmissible, and Rage was sentenced and convicted.

He was moved to a block in the prison, specific to super-powered convicts where he was cornered by some of the very villains he had helped imprison, and was badly beaten and left comatose with extensive brain damage.

Despite the odds, Rage recovered from the coma and brain damage and was next seen along side D-Man, helping civilians escape during the invasion of Hive; in which he was bonded to one of the symbiotes which ended up being consumed by a Poison (an alien species of crystalline extraterrestrials), which appeared to result in his death when the time displaced Jean Grey destroyed them.

Rage, however, along side of Nova, Namorita, Speedball, and many other heroes is seen next helping against the fight in the Negative Zone, summoned by Nova. Together, at the cost of what appears to be Richard Rider’s life – the Annihilation Scourge is defeated.

Height: 6’6?
Weight: 450 lbs.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: None

Powers: A child possessed of a massive superhuman adult physique, Rage has tremendous superhuman strength and durability; for reasons unknown, his strength increases when he uses it in violent or aggressive ways. His speed is superhuman (enabling him to outrun an express train with ease), and his stamina, reflexes and recuperative powers are also enhanced beyond normal human levels.

Accessories: None

Note: Despite his height and appearance, Rage is still a very young teenager.

Silhouette

Real Name: Janelle Chord (legally changed from Silhouette Chord)
Aliases: None
Identity: Secret
Occupation: Wanderer, Instructor at Danny Rand’s Martial Arts School (Sensei)
Citizenship: United States Citizen with no criminal record.
Place of Birth: Unknown
Known Relatives: Andrew Chord (father), Miyami (Mother, deceased), Aaron Chord/Midnight’s Fire (Twin Brother), Julia Chord (Niece)
Group Affiliation: Formerly Concrete Dragons, New Warriors, Folding Circle
First Appearance: New Warriors #2 (Volume One)
History: In 1966 during the Vietnam War, an American recon patrol in Cambodia stumbled upon an ancient, hidden temple of a cult known as the Dragon’s Breadth, which had remained hidden for centuries. It had been built upon a well-spring of raw, primal energy called the “Well of All Things”. The inhabitants decided to breed a superior race that would one day unite with the ways of the west. They believed that this union would produce children capable of harnessing the power of the Well. The members of the recon patrol were to be the fathers of these children, one of these men was Andrew Chord the man who would become Silhouette’s father. Seeking a better life for her children, Silhouette and Midnight’s Fire, were brought to a woman to take care of them, away from Tai.

Silhouette and her brother Midnight’s Fire are the only children of Andrew Chord, the former guardian of Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher). Silhouette and Midnight’s Fire were operating as independent vigilantes in the streets of New York City, when they met Dwayne (before he had become Night Thrasher), and the three began an organized effort to take down various New York City street gangs.

This partnership ended when Silhouette was shot and paralyzed from the legs down in a sting gone bad. Midnight’s Fire blamed Dwayne, becoming a cop killer and druglord in order to lure Dwayne into a physical confrontation he could not possibly win. Later the partially paralyzed Silhouette reunited with Dwayne, distancing herself from her brother’s evil actions.

Diego Cassias, one of the other members of the recon patrol, now calling himself The Left Hand, stole the power of the Well from his own child, then gathered the other children of the pact into a group called the Folding Circle. The Circle attempted to take control of the Well away from Tai. Members of the Circle, together with the New Warriors, managed to defeat Tai, but the Well was sealed, Cassias and Tai were apparently killed, and the surviving members of the Circle escaped in a stolen Avengers’ Quinjet.

The remaining members of the Folding Circle later crashed in Madripoor and attempted to usurp the role of local druglord (Aardwolf, a Mutant crimelord). They succeeded, but were later taken down by Night Thrasher and Silhouette.

For a time, Silhouette and Night Thrasher were lovers; in fact, Dwayne had been in love with her for a very long time, but his anger and single-minded obsession with his “mission” eventually pushed her away. Silhouette later hooked up with Dwayne’s half-brother Bandit, and they both left the team.

Silhouette and Bandit moved to Chicago together, and for a long time, nothing was heard from either of them until Bandit showed up in New Orleans, attempting to con Belladonna into helping him destroy the Thieves Guild. It is during this story that Gambit reveals the fact that Bandit and Silhouette are still together, and that he was only manipulating Belladonna. The Guild was destroyed and Bandit left New Orleans and presumably returned to Chicago.

Silhouette and Bandit parted ways for reasons unknown. Silhouette would turn up again as a part of the 50 State Initiative. She would also later meet the man calling himself Night Thrasher (despite having seen Dwayne, the original Night Thrasher, apparently perish in Stamford). She quickly discovered that it was actually Donyell. She tried to convince him to register and become a part of the Initiative and quit this business with the New Warriors before someone else got hurt – but he would have none of it.

Silhouette would eventually help The New Warriors that was led by Justice and Speedball against the Inhumans.

After the battle with the Inhumans, Silhouette became a Sensei / Instructor at the Martial Arts School run by Danny Rand (Iron Fist) and Misty Knight.

Silhouette’s life would go on to become complicated, when her brother Midnight’s Fire joined an organization called The Ten Rings and went on to try and recruit Riri Williams, better known as Ironheart. Ironheart would go on to fight a mystical villain named Eclipse who was also tied to the terrorist organization The Ten Rings. Ironheart turned to Doctor Strange who provided information about the mystical Wellspring of Power her mentor, Tony Stark (Iron Man) and provided her a contact in Wakanda. This eventually draws the attention of Silhouette who arrives in Wakanda and teams up with Ironheart and Shuri.

Together they piece together that Midnight’s Fire and the Ten Rings are trying to figure out how to make a sacrifice to the Wellspring without using their own lives (Eclipse was seeing raising zombies and creating “shadow beings” that drain life force), and that if they succeed they will have untapped and endless power. The trio arrive and engage in a fight with the Ten Rings, including Midnight’s Fire, and Riri’s biological father, going by the name Dune (who can manipulate the Earth). Okoye, from Wakanda arrives to give some assistance, but it’s not enough and Ironheart grabs the Stone of Hala and plunges into the Wellspring where she unleashes her potential and rises from the Wellspring, forcing the members of the Ten Rings, including Midnight’s Fire, to flee.

Silhouette would eventually try to seek some semblance of a normal life for herself, and looked to begin with trying to date a normal person. After several dates, where she thought it better to use a fake name, rather than “Silhouette” – she realized that she should probably begin with changing her name legally, which she does to Janelle Chord. One of those dates she’d previously gone on, and ironically had used the name “Janelle” before she’d legally changed it – runs into her again, with his daughter, Kendra. Patrick, the man who’d been on the date apologizes for having been so invested in his phone; but explains that he and the ex-wife share custody of Kendra, and something had come up. He asks Janelle for a do-over, and offers to take her on a date as his plus one to court side seats at a Knicks game, which Janelle agrees to go on.

Height: 5’6?
Weight: 106 lbs.
Eyes: Black (No Visible Pupils)
Hair: Black

Powers: Silhouette is able to manipulate the Darkforce energies. Silhouette originally had the power to shadowmelt, thereby becoming nearly invisible while under the cover of darkness, as well as the ability to teleport via dimension hop, using any available shadow as a portal. She could also open small portals anywhere shadows exist and use them to attack distant enemies. After a disturbance in the Darkforce that affected everyone who used it, she found that her powers had increased to the point where she could now teleport others. She has demonstrated this ability by teleporting small groups of people along with herself, although it is painful and leaves her exhausted. She can also now become ‘living darkness’, and can cause extreme pain by phasing through the bodies of her enemies. She also displayed the ability to manipulate the Darkforce energies to be able to lash out and grab and lift objects (as done to Night Thrasher and Bandit in New Warriors Volume 4 #8). Like her brother Midnight’s Fire, Silhouette also has enhanced speed, strength, agility, and sensory perception.

Accessories: Crutches made by Dwayne Taylor that allow her to distribute an electrical shock to anyone she attacks.

Note: While still paralyzed, she is a capable martial artist but is not on par with her brother.

Night Thrasher

Real Name: Dwayne Michael Taylor
Aliases: None
Identity: Secret
Occupation: Former reality TV star, crimefighter, head of the Taylor Foundation
Citizenship: United States Citizen
Place of Birth: New York City, New York
Known Relatives: Daryl Taylor (father, deceased), Melody Ann Taylor (mother, deceased), Donyell Taylor (Bandit, bother), Elvin Holiday (Rage, ward), Zachary Smith Jr. (Microbe, ward, deceased)
Group Affiliation: Formerly New Warriors, Folding Circle, Psionex
First Appearance: Thor #411
History: Dwayne Taylor grew up believing his rich parents were killed by criminals for some unexplained reason. Taylor’s guardians, the ex-military sergeant Chord (a friend of his father’s) and the elderly martial arts master Tai, supported Taylor’s vow to make all criminals pay for their actions, helping him create the identity of Night Thrasher.

Taylor trained hard to be a skilled fighter. On his first outing, he met Midnight’s Fire and Silhouette. These two superhumans were taking out criminals by gaining their confidence and then busting them. Giving his name as Night Thrasher, Taylor joined them on their crusade. One night, while Silhouette was infiltrating a gunrunning operation, the police accidentally came upon them. Scared that the police were fixing to shoot his sister, Midnight’s Fire started to throw a blade at them. Taylor stopped him before he had a chance to throw it, and a gun battle erupted. Silhouette was hit and badly injured in the spine. Taylor, who had fallen in love with Silhouette, was heartbroken, as was Midnight’s Fire. Midnight’s Fire swore to get revenge on Taylor someday. Taylor left them, believing that Silhouette was dead.

Realizing that he needed more of an edge, Taylor trained even harder. Using his parent’s Taylor Foundation, Taylor had Chord provide him with a state-of-the-art headquarters, training facilities, and computer support systems. He also had developed specialized armor and weaponry. Taylor then decided to create a special team so he would have some backup. He recruited several young heroes and formed the New Warriors.

Shortly after they formed the team, Midnight’s Fire made an appearance and tried to frame Taylor with the murder of two policemen. In a final battle with Midnight’s Fire, Taylor overcame his fear of his nemesis and beat him in a battle. Taylor then discovered that Silhouette was still alive but crippled. She renounced her brother’s actions, turning him in to the police and joining Taylor in the New Warriors.

After the Warriors thwarted a plot by the criminal scientists of A.I.M., Taylor discovered a link between A.I.M.’s benefactors and the Taylor Foundation. With some investigation, he discovered dozens of illegal operations and shady business practices performed by the Foundation, linking them with criminal industrialist Gideon and the Japanese Yakuza syndicate, among others. Taylor used the Warriors to seek out the truth in confronting the Yakuza, but the team balked at making a deal with criminals. Taylor refused to budge, and the argument led him to quit the New Warriors.

Taylor was then approached by the criminal team Folding Circle, of which Midnight’s Fire was a part, since they promised to lead him to the truth of his past. In doing so, it was revealed that Taylor’s father, while in Vietnam, was captured by Tai, who was a powerful sorcerer guarding an ancient temple. Tai had coerced Taylor’s father and others in his military unit, including Chord, to have children with the women of the temple, in order that their children would later be sacrificed in the temple’s mystic well of dimensional energies and thereby give Tai even greater power. Chord and Taylor’s father tried to thwart this plot, and Chord was thus mystically ensorcelled to kill Taylor’s parents. The Folding Circle was comprised of the children of Tai’s prophecy, but it was assembling its members too early for Tai’s wishes. The New Warriors, investigating Night Thrasher’s activities, tracked the Circle to the Vietnamese temple, where they joined Folding Circle in a climatic battle with Tai. Ultimately, Tai was seemingly slain by the very energies she tried to master.

Taylor rejoined the New Warriors and served with them for a long tenure. He left the team eventually, rededicating himself to his role as chairman of the Taylor Foundation, although he would team up with them when the need arose. Later, Taylor decided to give up adventuring altogether, becoming a full-time director of the Taylor Foundation. He believed that true battles for justice would be fought in the boardrooms. He moved to the Seattle branch of the Foundation, seemingly disbanding the New Warriors.

Over time, however, the New Warriors reassembled without Taylor’s help. Even so, as the Warriors continued to use equipment and facilities associated with the Taylor Foundation, he was able to monitor the new version of the team. He even rejoined them briefly against the assassin Junzo Muto and agents of the Hand.

More recently, the Taylor Foundation suffered a massive downfall when its funding of cancer research banked on the efforts of Zachary Smith. Smith’s cure was revealed to be nothing more than his mutant son’s subconscious help. The Foundation’s stock tanked and Smith abandoned his son, but Dwayne Taylor stepped in to adopt the young mutant, now Microbe. However, it would require more creative solutions to save the Foundation. Night Thrasher made a deal with shady television executive Ashley Brothers to avoid bankruptcy, but this also forced the New Warriors into a unique re-branding as a reality-TV show. Hoping to make the best of the situation, the team hit the road to become heroes for the common man throughout small-town America.

The Warriors enjoyed mixed success and popularity, but the show was officially cancelled and bankruptcy proceedings were initiated. Even so, the Warriors were able to return and continue their reality-TV efforts. However, when they hoped to boost their ratings by apprehending a quartet of villains holed up in Stamford, Connecticut, tragedy struck. During the battle, Nitro used his power to cause a massive explosion. It killed Night Thrasher, the New Warriors, and almost everyone in the vicinity.

During a televised raid by the New Warriors of a building in which Cobalt Man, Speedfreak, Coldheart, and Nitro, who had recently escaped from the Raft, resided. Namorita followed after Nitro, slamming him into a bus. Nitro warned her that she wasn’t facing the kind of loser that she was used to facing. Nitro then ignited himself, causing a massive explosion that killed Namorita, Night Thrasher, Microbe, all of the children at the nearby elementary school, and all residents in the surrounding neighborhood where the fight took place.

Donyell Taylor soon took up the guise of Night Thrasher and formed his own team of New Warriors. He was able to find the bodies of Dwayne, Namorita and Microbe, confirming their deaths.

As it would turn out, later – in the events of Contest of Champions, Dwayne was plucked just moments before his death, and forced to take a part of the Contest of Champions, reversing his death. When the rest of his “team” was sent back to Earth, Dwayne was mistakenly sent back as well – alive and well.

During the events of Civil War II, Dwayne was seen working with both Iron Man and Captain Marvel, against an alien invasion, where he had helped save the life of a young, lost, girl.

Justice, Namorita, Speedball, and Night Thrasher are seen fighting along side the Champions, Avengers, and Fantastic Four during a Badoon invasion after the alien species destroyed the moon.

Height: 6’3?
Weight: 220 lbs.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black
Powers: None.

Accessories: Carries two truncheons approximately 1? in length. He has also used a variety of weaponry such as: pepper spray, an Adamantium garrote wire, plastique and napalm gel packs, an 8-inch spring-lock blade, and an uzi machine pistol. Night Thrasher wears a bulletproof suit of body armor that also contained hydraulic systems which increased his strength and ability to leap and to run for long distances. He has also used a variety of gadgets including magnesium flares, incendiary caps, smoke pellets, ball bearings, and spur jacks. The armor also contains a parachute, as well as the ability to use a thin coating that will mimic his surroundings, creating a camouflage effect. His helmet includes a voice scrambler, infrared vision, telescopic vision, a built-in camera and film pack, a breathing apparatus with a 5-minute air supply, and enhanced listening devices. He formerly used a rocket-propelled skateboard for transportation. The skateboard could be used as a shield and contained a hidden spring-locked blade in the front.

Note: Extremely skilled hand-to-hand combatant, and master in an as-yet-unspecified Japanese martial art. Thrasher is also a trained gymnast, a talented weapons and armor designer. Also possesses a high proficiency in computer tapping, software coding, security set-up, and hacking. He also has proven to have mental barriers that provide him with increased resistance against telepathy and mental attacks.

Note 2: In a way the Contest of Champions contradicts the issues of New Warriors where Donyell Taylor (as Night Thrasher II) finds the bodies of Namorita, Microbe, and Night Thrasher confirming all three perished in the explosion that triggered Civil War; because in Contest of Champions it states he was whisked away mere millseconds before his death, which would have made it impossible for Donyell Taylor (Night Thrasher II) to find Dwayne’s body. But we’ll take it – better to have Dwayne back!

Celebrating: Darkhawk #1

Darkhawk #1 – created by Tom DeFalco and Mike Manley – Comic by: Danny Fingeroth (Writer), Mike Manley (Artist), Joe Rosas (Colorist) & Joe Rosen (Letterer)

I remember when my friend Charles, showed up and he had Darkhawk #1 in his hands. I looked at the comic and tried to figure out if he was some combination of Iron Man, meets Falcon, meets Wolverine as I looked at the cover.

He let me read the first issue after he read it – and I was immediately on my way to my local comic store to pick up my copy.

Darkhawk #1 had felt like I was just introduced to the next “Spider-Man.” He was that local hero who wasn’t experienced at what he was doing and just trying to make the best of it. He found himself involved in a number of things – but, on top of that, there was some wonderful character moments from other characters (such as his parents). They were not just show casing this hero – they were developing the very world Chris Powell found himself in.

I ended up collecting Darkhawk faithfully from that day forward, and I am so glad my friend showed me that first issue and let me read it. To this day, I am always excited if there’s a Darkhawk story – and while Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning would change some of his background (which some may or may not have agreed with) – to me, they really opened the door for Darkhawk to be so much more and far more “usable” in the Marvel Universe. Sadly, not much was done following their story.

Want to learn more about Darkhawk?

  • His original series ran 50 issues with 4 annuals, and they did a “Issue 51” a few years back. Find out more by visiting Darkhawk Volume 1 on my page.
  • Darkhawk was also involved in War of Kings which is on my site.
  • He also had issues centered on Infinity Countdown also on my site.
  • Chris’ story would seemingly wrap up in the Heart of the Hawk also on my site.

A new Darkhawk has emerged, as a new character, which I’ve read and enjoyed (but it definitely felt very different than the original). I never put it on the site because that character never had any connection to The New Warriors (never a member of the team, or a guest) – but because of his connection to the original Darkhawk, it may end up here one day…

  • Tawmis

Edit – Well, since Darkhawk was on the mind I went ahead and added the 5 issues from the 2021 series, featuring Connor Young.

How the New Warriors might have been the Young Avengers. (Continued!)

So back, in August of 2020, I posted a snipbit about how the New Warriors were almost known as the Young Avengers. You can read about it over here. Now, there’d been a proposal scan of all the pages and everything – but that was on Tom Brevoort’s old Tumblr or whatever – and the links to the images were long dead. Even through archive searches.

Well, Corey (of the awesome New Warriors Continuity Conundrum – please check out his site! He’s done an amazing amount of work chronicling the New Warriors appearances!) let me know that Tom Brevoort had posted the proposals on his new wesbite! (That link will open a new window to his website!) Now, normally I’d be good with that – just linking his site – but I am so paranoid now, after it was lost on the tumblr site he ran – that I have also uploaded it here, down below:
