Stan Lee’s Comic Con.

According to a report on CNN, Stan Lee will now be hosting his own “Comic Convention.”

From the CNN Website:

Stan Lee launches his own comic convention

LOS ANGELES (CNN) – Wherever superhero creator Stan Lee goes, a crowd of comic book fans seems to gather, but now Lee’s making it official with his own comic convention.

“Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo Presented by POW! Entertainment” launches in Los Angeles in September and is expected to spread with shows around the world, according to Lee and his “partner in crime” Regina Carpinelli.

Carpinelli grew up as a big fan of Lee’s many superhero characters, including Spider-Man and other Marvel Comics fixtures such as the X-Men, Thor and Iron Man.

Having Lee’s name on the marquis and his POW! Entertainment helping with promotion is “making history,” said Carpinelli, who compared the former Marvel Comics chief to Walt Disney, Einstein and Shakespeare. “What more can a convention want; this is magic we’re making here.”

“Despite my legendary shyness, I thought that would be a great idea,” Lee said.

Grown men have been seen crying after shaking hands with Lee at comic book shows.

“I have that firm grip,” Lee said. “I squeeze their hand so hard, what are they going to do?”

Fans line up for hours to pay $50 to meet Lee and get an autographed photo at conventions.

“Yes, they kept saying ‘Is he still around?'” Lee joked.

Lee decided to partner with Carpinelli after attending the inaugural Comikaze show at the Los Angeles Convention Center last November.

“The idea that Los Angeles, which is to me the seat of the world’s entertainment, did not have its own con, and the fact that (Carpinelli) got more than 40,000 people on your first one, just shows what a market there is,” Lee said.

Lee’s two-day show is set for September 15 and 16, two months after the San Diego Comic-Con International, which sold out 125,000 tickets online in 90 minutes last month.

“If you can’t get into that other show that happens in California because tickets are sold out, come check out Stan’s show because he’s going to be there,” Carpinelli said.

“But despite that, it will be a great show,” said Lee, known for his self-deprecating humor.

The line up of stars will be revealed over the coming weeks, and “Stan’s bringing some of his pals,” Carpinelli said.

“We’re going to have the cream of the crop of people in movies, television and the comic book world,” said Lee.

Lee continues to create new comic characters and attend big shows at age 89.

“They’re no longer comic book conventions,” he said. “I think of them as pop art conventions, entertainment industry conventions, really. Because though they started with comic books, they now encompass movies, television, video games, digital entertainment. Everything in the field of entertainment is now represented in these so-called comic cons.”

Lee’s ComiKaze will be kid-friendly, with children under 12 admitted free, Carpinelli said, recalling her own childhood fascination with Lee’s work.

“I was a little girl with my brothers actively seeking spiders to bite us, making my mom mad jumping off the roof to play Spider Man,” she said, adding: “I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and all I had was comic books and movies, and acting that out. It was a positive experience and I think that’s what made me who I am.”

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY… Movie?

It looks like it could be true.

It’s buzzing around the web! And it looks to be Team DnA’s version of the GUARDIANS. Could this mean a guest appearance by NOVA to hopefully set up a potential NOVA movie as well? One can only hope.

You can discussion on the New Warriors Forum!

Marvel Reveals Details on Guardians of the Galaxy Film

In an interview with Crave Online, Marvel Studios’ President of Production Kevin Feige confirmed the Guardians of the Galaxy film, the first he’s said on the subject since October last year, where Feige said the opportunity to do a big space epic was hinted at in Thor. Feige also noted that it would be the modern version of the team, rebooted in 2008 by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning for Marvel Comics.

In a new interview, Crave asked Feige what non-sequel projects were being prioritised at the moment. ”I think whether it’s Ant-Man, or Dr. Strange, or The Inhumans, or The Guardians of the Galaxy“, said Feige “We are very excited about bringing things like that, maybe things exactly like that, to the screen. […] When you tell people, you know what would be really cool? This movie, and there’s a raccoon, and there’s a tree… And they go, ‘What?’ And people like you know what it is, and get excited. And the majority of people go, ‘Did you say a raccoon and a tree?’ ‘Oh yeah, they’re going to steal the whole movie. They’re hilarious.’ ‘Okay, I’ll believe it when I see it.’ I like that.”

He added ”It’s more Star-Lord and Drax and Gamora, and less Vance Astro and that team”, the latter referring to the now defunct 1969 team.

Feige added that they knew what their second 2014 film would be, but weren’t ready to announce it yet. For those keeping score, the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film after this month’s The Avengers will be Iron Man 3 (3 May 2013), Thor 2 (15 November 2013) and Captain America 2 (4 April 2014). That leaves a gap for a late 2014 film, which many have speculated to be either a Guardians of the Galaxy film, Ant-Man or Dr. Strange.

While we’re not sure if the world is quite ready for an anthropomorphic raccoon based loosely on a song by The Beatles, expanding the Marvel universe beyond the main Avengers team would be an impressive feat and another step towards global geek domination.

If you were wondering just how Marvel could up the stakes for their movies after introducing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Marvel’s The Avengers, then Kevin Feige has four simple words in response: Guardians of The Galaxy.

Talking to Crave Online, Feige said that, while Marvel did already know what its second movie release of 2014 (behind Captain America 2) would be, it wasn’t ready to name the project yet. However, when listing projects in development at the studio, he mentioned Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, The Inhumans and Guardians of The Galaxy, before going on to say,

We are very excited about bringing things like that, maybe things exactly like that, to the screen. They’re hilarious.’ ‘Okay, I’ll believe it when I see it.’ I like that.

That definitely sounds like the most recent incarnation of Marvel’s earliest cosmic super team, a fact that Feige confirmed when asked, saying “Yeah, it’s more Star-Lord and Drax and Gamora, and less Vance Astro and that team.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy were created in 1969 by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan as super-heroes from an alternate future Earth that had survived both ecological disaster and alien invasion (all but one of the characters was an alien, in fact); after guest-starring in various series such as Marvel Team-Up, The Defenders and The Avengers for much of the 1970s, the team disappeared for the majority of the next decade before receiving their own series in the early 1990s.

The name was revived in 2008 by writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning for an entirely different team that spun out of the critically-acclaimed Annihilation: Conquest mini-series. The second team — made up of various b-list-or-lower supporting characters, failed leads (Star-Lord, the leader of the team, had been the subject of some of the earliest collaborations between Chris Claremont and John Byrne, long before they teamed up on Uncanny X-Men) and, yes, a talking Space Raccoon — carried their own monthly series for twenty-five issues, before the team disbanded with the book’s cancellation.

This mention of a Guardians film counts as the first on-the-record confirmation of the project’s existence following months of speculation. No writer or director has been attached in those rumors, however.

Nova 619 Comic! (Fan Made!)

Darren posted this on the forum, and it’s pretty incredible that fans could come together, across the world to make this happen!

Hello! I’m Darren, long time contributor to Nova Prime Page and Cosmic Book News! Two years ago myself and some fellow Nova fans from all across the globe at Deviant Art started a web-comic based on our favorite Human Rocket called Nova619! Its free, downloadable from either NPP or CBN. Set in an alternative Universe post Annihilation – it follows a “what-if?” timeline if Richard Rider had not gone solo as seen in NOVA Vol.4 – forming the United Defense Initiative to combat the aftermath of the War in the Verges – as well as new and old enemies!

The team are presently in production for this year’s run beginning later in the Spring – but if you want to catch up you can pick up all the stories done so far via the link below at Nova Prime Page!
