Maelstrom employs a trio of super powered agents to carry out his bidding. Although their origins are unknown, it is believed that all three were either human, Deviant, or a mixture of both, who gained their powers due to Maelstrom using the Terrigen Mist upon them. Maelstrom keeps an unlimited amount of clones of not only himself, but his minions; and when the clone is released, it retains all the memories (including the moment of it’s death) from the previous body. Maelstrom frequently killed any of his minions if they failed a task he had given to them. Their first public appearance happened when Maelstrom dispatched them to steal the Anti-Terrigen Mist Reed Richards had created from the Hydro-Base. Although they had succeeded in the task at hand, they were also captured, which lead Maelstrom sending his ally, Deathurge to kill the minions. The Minions have appeared repeatedly since then, battling the Thing, The Inhumans, and the West Coast Avengers. They were most recently seen landing on Earth to prepare an event for Maelstrom; what that event was, was never known.

NOTE: Because I’ve always been curious what Yost’s plans were for the book that was clearly cut too soon – I asked what his plans for Maelstron and his minions were and here’s what he told me:

I was going to have the Celestials come to Earth, but they were being used elsewhere in a bigger book, as often happens. The return of Maelstrom was a part of a big Nova story I was planning.
